My Coach Approach

Let me tell you a little bit about my approach to potty training…

My Coach Approach!

My potty training approach is more gentle, loving and comfortable for both parent & child. I have always been a very empathetic person so
it is in my nature to work patiently with the child - at their level of comfort and learning this new life skill at their own pace.

Some of the other methods out there are just too harsh for me with their crass "tough love" insensitive mentality. This will almost always backfire and cause serious set backs and delays. Then you’ll just be starting all over again from scratch back at square one again. That might even be why you’re here now? Because the other rigid, militant, insensitive style of training isn’t working for you? Tired of the Mom Shaming? Completely understandable!

Honestly, a majority of the Mamas who come to me seeking help with their potty training have already tried other methods, techniques and books/authors but it did not work for their toddler. Most of my clients find me because they were dissatisfied with the other programs and have told me that the “certified” consultant person they spoke to was just “reading off a script” so it was not personalized.

In fact it felt rushed, brief, cold, un-informative and just not helpful at all! So they asked for a refund! Now they’re here seeking professional help from Miss Jen as someone who truly has 40 years of real life experience. Not just a pseudo “certificate” because they read a book.

MY APPROACH:
I prefer to encourage children who are learning this important new life skill of toileting with gentle motivation, positive reinforcement and with loving encouragement by offering the child lots of opportunities to sit on the potty, I like to call ‘em “potty-tunities”!

I will help set your child up for success by offering incentive and rewards as reinforcers for potty successes. This does not necessarily need to be candy, sweets, treats or food.

I can tell you this: my coaching approach will get you better results faster.

By “BETTER” I mean: results that will stick! Potty habits that will be here to stay!

By “FASTER” I mean: I’ve potty trained little ONE year olds in a week! I’ve potty trained 3 year olds on a 3 day holiday weekend! Because my methods encourage the child to feel like they’re doing things in their way, on their terms, in their own time! They feel like this whole potty training thing is THIER idea! Plus I make it FUN! They actually ENJOY potty learning!

I've been potty training toddlers for over 39 years. I've been a private Nanny for many families from different countries & cultures all over the world. I was a travel Nanny, a newborn Nanny and I’ve worked as an Executive Nanny for the rich & famous. So over the years I've learned how to adapt to the many varying parenting styles of each different family in harmony with the child's individual personality.

I do not push one particular method, book or author. I do not enforce one specific style or technique, nor do I insist on “my way is the right way”. “I’m right, you’re wrong”. That is not my style.

I work WITH you. I am on your team!

I like to incorporate many different methods and try several different techniques from different books & journals, research & literature and the psychology courses and child development curriculum I’ve studied in college as well as incorporating my own experience & successes through the years .

Even with all my studies and my college education, nothing has taught me more than the actual in-home hands-on experience I’ve had in person working individually with hundreds of toddlers over the past 4 decades as well as the hundreds of thousands of families I‘ve helped with my coaching & consultation services remotely.

I’ve learned first hand that very child is so different and so unique. And I’ve learned there is no “one” perfect recipe”, no one-size-fits-all solution. This is not a cookie- cutter milestone. Potty learning is very unique and every child will learn differently and in their own way.

I feel that potty training is an important milestone that can often feel scary and stressful for a tiny little young human.

Child development studies explain that potty training resistance, delays or regression often happen when the child is working on learning other new skills and trying to master them both at the same time simultaneously. So potty learning doesn't need to be rushed, stressful or forceful - as many of the other methods and books enforce.

Some books & authors push the use of negative reinforcement or punishment. Even the use of shaming, embarrassment or humiliation. They're ok with the tough love, "let your baby cry it out" mentality and even physical discipline, time-outs or spanking. Yikes!

I personally don't believe any of those tactics are effective. In fact they can be counterproductive and damaging! It hurts my heart to think even about it.

So there’s a glimpse into the heart and the mind of Miss Jen. Your friend, your mentor, your helper, your support system, your cheerleader, your team player, YOUR COACH!

I'm here for you!

We can do this! With a little bit of patience, some compassion and a lot of love.
